One Local Store Gets “MOBBED” in St.Charles County
COTTLEVILLE, MO (April 2, 2012) – The Cottleville-Weldon Spring Chamber of Commerce is hosting the area’s first-ever CASH MOB on April 17, 2012. It will be held at a Top-Secret location and will be announced the morning of the event at the Chamber’s General Membership Meeting. All details will also be broadcast via the Cash Mob’s Facebook page and Twitter account.
Cash mobs are a new phenomenon sweeping cities and towns across America. They are similar to the popular flash mobs, where a group of people meet at a designated time and location and begin “spontaneously” dancing or singing. Instead of dancing or singing, these mobs go shopping and spend their money in a locally owned and operated business, and have great fun in the process. Cash mobs began in 2011 and many consider them the people’s stimulus package, helping small businesses in their communities.
The mobbing group communicates via Facebook, Twitter, e-Newsletters and word-of mouth. Excitement builds as they wonder where they will meet and what items will be available for purchase. Cash mob participants are asked to follow just three basic rules: spend at least $20, meet three new people and have fun! They are also invited to a nearby locally owned watering hole for celebratory refreshments afterwards.
“Bringing this Cash Mob to our area is another example of the Chamber’s commitment to local businesses,” stated Chamber President, Paul Orso. “We continue to look for unique opportunities to support our community, and are thrilled to bring the very first Cash Mob to St. Charles County!”
